Artist Statement: how can I express societal climate issues into 3d art. And how i can use different mediums to express different aspects and angles of the same overlying issue of climate justice.

Tree of Life

Ideas: This piece represents the earth, life, and pollution. The connection between the tree and the fish represtns the cycle of nutrients that is transferred between the the animals and nature, the fish providing the nutrients for the trees in this case. We created this piece before having our inquiry question so this really helped us form our questions along the way. this piece serves more as a call to arms to raise awareness of the necessity of the natural ecosystmes to provide for us. The rock itself represents the earth, we found out the rock was a volcanic rock and thought that it was a good representation of earth
|

Materials: We originally used thin wire to create small mock ups of the trees and fish and then when we relized how big we needed it to be we got a thicker gauge wire. we still used the thinner wire for the fish and attached them with \ a colored string. we placed the tree on a rock we found

Processes: we originally made smaller tree with a thin and smaller bits of wire, we gradually built up in length and thickness until we were ready for the final form of the tree. for the fish we experimented with designs for a wire but ended up with trying a skeleton-esque style. We did try having a wire skeleton covered with watercolor painted papaer but they ended up being too big for the tree we made so we stuck with the original fish design. we decded to use green string to attach he fish because it seemed to look like sea grass or kelp. And for the rock we went with a badalt rock because we thought it represented the earth well, we almost used a quartz looking rock but we didnt thinnk the wire would stay on it as well

Rock River

Ideas: This is only part of a whole overall installation piece. The piece will be split into to sides with the rocks forming a stream in the middle. One of side of the stream will portray untouched and pristine nature while the other will be showing the effects of man. This follows our inquiry questions of showing the impact and how we need to diminish our carbon footprints sooner rather than later

Materials: we created the rocks out of clay and then used pottery glaze to give them color

Process: We originally tried to put paper in a  bowl then put a layer of clay on the paper to make the shape, but the clay held the shape of the wrinkles and didn't really look how we wanted. So we experimented with different forms of creating them by hand we found then forming a ball then spreading from a hole worked best. We then either dipped or hand painted the rocks to give all of the different colors and effects

Room Plan

Ideas: This is still a concept. We just jotted down a few ideas of what the future installation piece will contaion.. We plan to have all of the rocks form a stream down the middle and split the room in two different areas.
